The Alpharetta Junior Woman’s Club is an organization based in the North Fulton area which performs volunteer assistance in the areas of the arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs. They have been performing service work for over 30 years in connection with the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Their September meeting will be held Tuesday, September 7 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at 9630 Red Bird Lane in Johns Creek. They will have a speaker from Every Woman Works, a learning center based in Roswell whose goal is to provide women who are homeless, victims of domestic violence, or recovering from alcohol or drug dependency, with an opportunity to develop work skills, build self confidence and obtain financial independence. In addition, they will be collecting pajamas in sizes 4T and up, including women’s pajamas and assembling hygiene kits to donate to domestic violence shelters in connection with the Pajama Project.

A few of their many projects they have performed in recent years includes working with EnAble. They purchased art lessons for several of their members at You Gotta Have Art Studios in Alpharetta. They helped to develop a Serenity Garden at the Drake House and work with Autrey Mill Nature Center with their Spooky Mill event and several of the Shakespeare Studio’s performances. They have adopted Jesse’s House, a home based in Cumming for girls from ages 7 through 18 who have been recommended to the home from local court systems for their two-year community improvement project. They enjoy supporting our military, both current and veterans. They’ve written letters and donated items to Hugs for Soldiers and purchased items for women veterans at the Veterans Hospital in Atlanta. In addition, one of their favorite events is A Night for Wild Women, which raises funds for Heifer International.

This year they will be inviting each member to create a worthy project and will be furnishing a $150 budget for those projects which are accepted by the Board. If you are interested in learning more about the Alpharetta Juniors, call 770-437-6861 or visit their website at www.ajwc.net.
